It never fails. Every year when the first snow comes I see cars off the road because people forgot how to drive in weather. And there’s usually a decent number of SUVs too, because we all know awd makes you bulletproof . I’m not sure what happened to this dude, but flipping your Range Rover like this might mean you were going a wee bit fast.

They are great in snow, but I will defer to HHFP’s handy chart:

Maybe they just wanted to Discover* how it was like to live in Australia?

*I know it’s not a Disco, but it works with the Range Rover centric joke.

Don’t forget the other side of dumb. Witnessed an f250 crewcab diesel on snows that knew exactly what he was doing, and proceeded to tailgate and bully his way around and throug traffic. Scared everyone around, made people flinch, was probably more of an accident cause than the snow itself cause he was impatient with everyone else’s caution and lack of snow tires.

I’m eagerly awaiting our first snow in SW Va to see what this year’s trend will be. 2 years ago it was Liberties & Compasses with (oddly: I thought they were all dead) a fair showing of Dodge Journeys

Last year I really couldn’t discern a trend—but we didn’t have much snow really

I usually keep a running tally every winter of how many Jeep’s I see in their roof. This season, I’m up to 3. Last year saw 4 in a single day so I’m waiting for one like that with the extra foot of snow we got today.

Mounting snows to my daily before headin up north for the holidays was honestly worth its weight. They arent fantastic in the dry, even in the cold, but as soon as it got powdery that rear stayed exactly where i wanted

First snow, and they put it shiny side down.

I suppose they thought AWD meant that winter tires were no longer had a point.

A few years ago, I was driving down a slushy highway when it was snowing, and the highway was quite empty because it was the middle of the day.

I was putting at about 40mph on the 55mph limited road because I didn’t want to hurt my nice new (to me) WRX.

An early 2000's Ford Explorer came up behind me, quick, and pulled the cheeky quick-pass, just turning around me and jumping back into the right lane. Except when he turned into the right lane, he kept turning.... and turning... and spun 360 degrees in front of me, missed a guard rail, and went backwards into the woods sliding at 50+ mph.

This time of year, SUV drivers scare me more than anyone. As the saying goes, 4WD helps you GO in the snow, but it doesn’t help you STOP.

But having 4wd/AWD makes me invincible in the winter!

Usually I run winters with studs but this year I’m running all seasons.

Why do people think a high center of gravity is good in slippery conditions? I’ve never understood why people think they need to get an SUV for snow......get snow tires for the snow, SUVs for driving kids to school.

TCS is not smart is causes more issues than it’s worth.

Depends on the TCS system. In a Rover? It’s amazing. In some older, generic sedan? Yea its junk.

I’ll ask the next stuck Range Rover I see how their TCS is working for them.....it’s going to snow this weekend so shouldn’t take too long here.
